Area-51 R2, video card upgrade?

Hello there,

I've been a happy owner of the Area-51 R2 for several years but as per the usual excuse, with new games coming out, is it time to upgrade?

I've experienced frame rate drop here and there but nothing significant and the computer has only needed to be fixed twice in the several years I've had it and I've made no upgrades as well.

I tend to keep hold of my hardware until it's absolutely necessary, so even if it's just the graphics card that needs an upgrade, any recommendations? If it's a small part that needs upgrading than $200-400 USD would be my budget.

System Model: Alienware Area-51 R2
Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K CPU 3.30GHz (12 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory: 32GB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

You have the exact same setup I used to have. I upgraded to a 2080 super recently. Then after a month with that did a whole motherboard swap and pretty much swapped everything out. If you will be keeping most of your PC as is is recommend you look at a 1080, 1080ti, or one of the 1600 cards. You could always wait for the 3000 series. It's supposed to be way better than 2000 series and the 3060 should come at a reasonable price.

Thanks so much for your input!  I heard the 1080 was and still is in huge demand so they've jacked up the prices, so I might look into a 1600 card if your 2080 eventually lead into a motherboard swap. I could wait for the 3000 series, I predict the 3060 will be around $300-400 USD.

Thank you again and I look forward to hearing other opinions, this certainly helped.
